Grand Seiko First

The first Grand Seiko arrived in 1960. My raised-logo J14070 shows one of the later expressions of that original design: gothic gold letters, double-ridged markers and sword-shaped hands over a quiet eggshell dial.

I keep returning to the balance between its small scale and its substance in the hand. The dial concentrates so much detail into fine relief, while the case remains rounded and generous. Beside the early King Seiko or the later 44GS, those choices become easier to see.
