King Seiko 45KS
The 45KS combines two qualities I find hard to resist: a remarkably disciplined hand-wound movement and an appetite for formal experiment. My serviced examples have given me precision and stability close enough to their Grand Seiko relatives to make the hierarchy feel rather less important on the wrist.
The 7000 is the concentrated, assertive face of the family. Its polished folds and black accents are full of small corrections and tensions. Elsewhere, the same mechanical foundation sits within a brushed cushion, a broad shield or the sensuous curves of the Chronometer Superior. The grey 8000 is quite happy to take things further still.
What joins them is the attention given to each retained element: how a hand reads against a marker, how a case fold approaches the strap, or how the meeting with the bezel changes the whole shape. These watches reward being turned in the light. A frontal photograph is only the introduction.
