The Tanaka Line

Grand Seiko 19GS

The 19GS brought Grand Seiko’s high-beat ambition into a much smaller watch in 1968. The cap-gold 1964-0010 combines sharp case folds, a linen dial and a hand-wound movement running at 36,000 vibrations an hour.

Its 26.1 mm width changes the relationship between every familiar element. Hands, markers, lettering and alternating surfaces still need room to remain distinct. Comparing it with a larger 45GS makes the accomplishment more tangible.
